Tech Support That Helps Fleets Perform in All Conditions

From high-tech fuel testing to reliable advice, Chevron Renewable Energy Group’s Technical Services team supports customers (and non-customers) to keep them running

If you’ve ever run into fuel-related issues or questions about how your fleet will operate with different blends of lower carbon fuels, you know how important it is to quickly get helpful answers from trusted experts. Chevron Renewable Energy Group offers ongoing world-class technical support via online and in-person resources through our Technical Services team.

“We provide the same fuel testing and technical support to non-customers as we do with our existing customers,” says Kelsey Erickson, Senior Manager, Commercial Quality Assurance. “We want to ensure anyone who is currently, or may soon be, using biofuels has a good experience with them in order to support the biomass-based diesel market.”

High-tech testing to ensure high quality

The team consists of a number of laboratory personnel including analysts, chemists and engineers who are based in Ames, Iowa, with additional resources in Europe. The Ames lab has extensive testing capabilities and often provides the support at no charge.

“We can perform fuel sample testing, analyze filters and non-fuel samples, and provide technical advice on storing, handling and blending fuel,” says Erickson. “We can also provide technical guidance on the fuel properties customers should consider for their specific operations.”

Our Ames, Iowa headquarters hosts a 4,000 square foot lab where our team performs many fuel tests, including:

  • Cold Soak Filtration, Cold Soak Filter Blocking Tendency, Cold Filter Plugging Point (CFPP) and Cloud Point testing to determine cold weather properties
  • Elemental analysis, such as Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP) testing, to identify and quantify elements other than carbon, hydrogen and oxygen, such as sulfur and metals
  • Gas Chromatography (GC), GC-Mass Spectrometry (GCMS) and GC Headspace testing to identify and analyze different substances in a liquid sample
  • Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) to determine the presence of a wide variety of molecules and materials in liquid and solid samples
  • Viscosity, density, flash point and energy content testing

We partner with companies to make economical investments in lower carbon fuel solutions as we help them navigate the complex regulatory landscape and work toward meeting their ESG targets. See how we empower our customers with the flexibility of product choice.

The facility also houses lab-scale processing equipment for research and development, including a variety of reactors, mixers, distillation and other separation units, filtration units and fermenters.

All Chevron Renewable Energy Group biorefineries have an on-site lab to test samples of all incoming and outgoing materials, ensuring we are providing high quality product.

Proof in the performance

In short, this team helps fleets perform, no matter the conditions.
