The Distilled Difference
REG-9000/5D Biodiesel is a distilled product that offers advanced cold-flow properties — making it a superior choice for reliable performance, even in colder temperatures. REG-9000/5D Biodiesel eliminates the need to switch to a lower Cloud Point biodiesel during winter months.
Distillation is the future of biodiesel.
- Biodiesel resulting from distillation is the purest and most consistent form of biodiesel.
- Distilled biodiesel blends more easily with petroleum diesel and burns better with a higher cetane number.
- The distillation process ensures better cold weather performance, including less potential for filter plugging, than undistilled soy biodiesel.
- REG-9000/5D Biodiesel earns a lower carbon intensity (CI) score and is less susceptible to price fluctuations in the commodity markets.
More reliable performance indicators than Cloud Point alone.
Even though its Cloud Point is slightly higher, REG-9000/5D Biodiesel can outperform undistilled soy biodiesel in cold weather.
Cold Soak Filter Blocking Tendency (CSFBT).
- Measures filter pressure increase for blended fuels.
- This test predicts the impact of minor components — including steryl glucosides — that can solidify in biodiesel blends in cold conditions.
- The lower the CSFBT score, the better the cold weather performance.
Distillation reduces potential for filter plugging.
- Lower steryl glucosides than undistilled soy biodiesel.
- Distillation reduces the monoglyceride content.

California’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) was established in 2007 to lower greenhouse gas emissions from petroleum-based transportation fuels. The LCFS requires producers of petroleum-based fuels to reduce the carbon intensity of their products to a 10 percent reduction by 2020. Biodiesel is given a carbon intensity (CI) score based on the feedstock used in the production of the biodiesel. A lower CI score improves the credit value of using the biodiesel. REG biodiesel, such as REG-9000/5D, has a lower CI score than traditional biodiesel produced from soybean oil. With REG-9000/5D, you get all the winterization benefits of a soy-based biodiesel, with a preferred CI rating for California markets and a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
