The Economic Impact of Biodiesel

U.S. biodiesel production has a significant positive impact across a variety of economic sectors.

The biodiesel industry plays an important role in our country’s economy. It lessens U.S. dependence on imported oil — bolstering national security and reducing our trade deficit. At the same time, biodiesel production boosts the U.S. economy by creating jobs, generating tax revenue and increasing our nation’s GDP.

The 2.8 billion gallons of biodiesel and renewable diesel used by Americans in 2021 supported $17 billion in economic impact, including:

65,000 jobs

$780 million in economic opportunity

In fact, every 100 million gallons of biodiesel production supports roughly 3,200 jobs, and producers are ready to expand production and hire new workers with steady growth under the Renewable Fuel Standard.

With biorefineries in nearly every state in the country, biodiesel production supports a wide variety of economic sectors, including: manufacturing, transportation, ag, retail

As biodiesel demand and production increase, the economic activity generated will continue to fuel America’s growth, security and prosperity in the future.
